The rights of an ordinary member is divided into three aspects:

An Ordinary Member can be a proposer or a seconder to any other member who wishes to contest for any post.

An ordinary member is eligible to vote, in a confidential manner during the Branch or Headquarters elections.

Right of an ordinary member to contest in any post at the Branch or Headquarters level, subject to provisions.

Right to be elected as a Trustee, Internal Auditor, Voting Scrutineer or Arbitrator.

Right to attend any General Meeting of the Branch.

Right to enjoy benefits from the Welfare Fund, Death Benefit Fund and Industrial Action Fund.

Eligible to apply for monthly fees exemption if pursuing further education or attending courses for more than 6 months without pay or at half pay.

If unemployed or critically ill, monthly membership dues can also be exempted or dues be paid at a discounted or special lower rates with written approval from the Executive Council or the Delegates Conference.

To examine the Registration Book and the Union Accounts.

To submit written complaints to the Internal Auditors on any financial misendeavours.

Right to secret Balloting on any amendment to the Rules of NUTP concerning increase of membership dues or matters reducing benefits to members.

Right to written reference on any industrial dispute to the Branch Secretary.

To use facilities provided by NUTP.

To enjoy NUTP publications published from time-to time.

To participate in any Insurance Schemes introduced by NUTP.

If disciplinary Action is taken on any member, the case can be referred to the Arbitrational Tribunal and appeal to the Delegates Conference, if found guilty by the Arbitrational Tribunal.
