| History of NUTP |
A unique feature of NUTP is that its membership is all encompassing and broad-based covering all categories of schools and all categories of teachers. Today, the NUTP is the single utmost largest teacher's Union in the country and perhaps in the whole of South East Asia, with a total membership of 112,841 (as of November 2003) and has 12 branches nationwide. It is indeed one of the strongest workers' union in the country - a force to be reckoned with!
The NUTP is a national level Union and all its branches conduct union activities at the state level, thus facilitating administration at the national level and ensuring that everything works out thoroughly, smoothly and effectively. Every Branch has its own administration office and its own local committee. By the year 2005, it is hoped that every single branch will have its own building and that the total membership will swell to 200,000.

| NUTP - Orgin |
27th June 1975 saw the birth and official registration of the National Union of the Teaching Profession or NUTP in short. It was the result of the merger of two pioneer teachers' unions, namely the National Union of Teachers (NUT) and the Union of the Teachers of National Schools (KKGSK). The first president of the newly formed Union was Tuan Haji Ahmad bin Abdul Rahman and Mr. Aloysius Mathews was the first Secretary-General. |

The respect and recognition accorded to teachers not only comes from different quarters of society, the government and private sector but also from the teachers themselves. Essentially, teachers themselves, as educators and the backbone of the nation, need to put their profession on a high pedestal. In fact, the NUTP will effectively contribute to efforts that are objective-orientated, effective, meaningful and positive so that we will always be looked up with honour and respect by all levels of society.
It is our earnest wish that all Malaysian Teachers will work whole-heartedly and give their very best towards building the future of the nation and ensuring the formation of worthy citizens. |
