Bullet LIVIN' PAY SCHEME (GS 2072)

The idea for the Livin' Pay scheme was mooted in 1996 by the then Secretary General Dato Siva Subaramaniam DPSJ, PMP, KMN. He found that there were many teachers who were suffering from critical illnesses and the old scheme, Group Multiple Benefits Scheme (GMBS) (GS 2624) did not extend cover to critical illnesses. He was instrumental in requesting that the company look into this possibility of incorporating critical illnesses cover into the existing GMBS. The company and the union spent two years in deliberation and negotiation and it was then decided by the company that a new scheme should be created to replace the old GMBS. Thus, the Livin' Pay Scheme with 36 critical illnesses was born.

When this scheme came out, there were no other group schemes throughout Malaysia covering 36 critical illnesses with retirement benefits. All other schemes offered by banks was on term basis with no cash value where the premium is age linked. In other words, if you are older, you have to pay a higher premium. With the advent of this insurance, the KPPK are pioneers in Malaysia where this scheme is concerned. After that, other companies introduced the same concept. Because of the pioneering status and the inital negotiation together with the last teachers' membership, the benefits offered in the Livin' Pay scheme is far superior than any other schemes in the market.

Until 2005, participation in the scheme has exceeded 45 thousands and still growing. The claims paid until 2005 are as follows:

Full Blown Aids
October 1998 - December 2002
Death Claim (108 cases) - RM 6,809,342
Critical Illnesses Claims (143 cases) - RM 5,852,781

January 2002 - April 2003
Hospitalisation Benefits Claim (3050 cases) - RM 1,200,767

From the above statistic, it can be deduced that there are still many teachers who have died and suffered from critical illnesses and not being aware of the benefits offered by this scheme. Many special promotion exercises have been carried out throughout the years to make the teachers aware of this scheme where they can also insure their spouses who may not be teachers and their children who are under age 23. Children who entered before age 23 can continue their insurance until the child reaches the age of 65. If the member pass away, the child can still continue in the scheme. This is also applicable to the spouse.

Bullet DANA RESTU SCHEME (GS 2415)
Dana Restu was introduced several years after the launch of Livin' Pay scheme. Basically the benefits and the premium are the same as of Livin' Pay. The only differences are:

i) The investment is done according to Syariah laws.
ii) This is an investment linked policy.
iii) You can sell the units for cash without surrendering the policy.

Living

This scheme has proven to be quite popular with our Muslim teachers because they are more comfortable with the knowledge that the investment is done according to Islamic laws. Since inception, many thousands have joined the scheme including non-Muslims to take advantage of the withdarawal benefits.

This year 2006, we intend to launch huge and sustained campaign to promote this scheme to especially the eastern states of Penisular Malaysia.

Anyone who participated in the Livin' Pay scheme can also join in the Dana Restu scheme and vice versa.

Bullet NUTP HEALTH CARE SCHEME
The NUTP Health Care scheme was introduced because teachers were facing tremendous problems on the Cuepacs Health Care which were sold to them. It was intended initially to allow teacher to replace the Cuepacs Care Scheme as well as fullfilling a need for teachers who want to avail themselves of private medical care instead of government medical facilities. Furthermore, it was also felt by the Union that the Livin' Pay / Dana Restu benefits did not adequately cover medical benefits in private hospitals. With the introduction of this NUTP Health Care which is introduced specifically for NUTP members and their famillies. Teachers can now avail medical care in private hospitals of their choice and such care can be obtained by just showing their health care card without paying any deposits to the hospitals. So, it is completeley CASHLESS.

Family
This NUTP medical insurance does not cover only 36 critical illnesses, it covers ANY illnesses or accidental injuries so long as they are not self-inflicted. Exclusions of the scheme basically are plastic surgery, intoxication, childbirth or any matters related to miscarriage, abortion, attempted suicide or any self-inlficted illnesses or injuries. For the full exclusions, kindly refer to the exclusions in the policy.

This policy has proven to be very popular because of the low premium and high coverage given. Teachers now realized the deed to have sufficient medical insurance because illnesses such as cancer, heart attack/heart by-pass, dengue, high fever, JE will strike their family without warning and this insurance will come in conveniently because they do not have to pay the huge medical bill associated to avail themselves of the medical care. This is the only remaining medical insurance where the whole family is insured under one single premium and there is no lifetime limit.

Bullet MUI DIAMOND ACCIDENT PROTECTOR SCHEME
This was one of the earliest insurance introduced by the Union. It was launched in 1992 and until today, more than 65 thousands have joined this scheme. This insurance is the cheapest personal accident insurance carrying a very substantial, comprehensive coverage. For small monthly premium of only RM 4.50 (the premium has not changed since 1992), the insured member is covered for a substantial sum of RM 110,000 for death and also permanent disablement. This coverage is increased to twice the amount if accidents occur in the public conveyance or if the insured is permanently disabled from neck down or becomes insane.

After its initial launch, the scheme was improved several times to include free medical benefits and this scheme is also open for participation by the member's spouse who may not be teachers and their family members. Many teachers who have claimed have written in to thank the Union for introducing this scheme to the teachers. You can refer to the letters in the explanation of the schemes. We believe that good wine needs no bush. Therefore, we leave it to the teachers to tell you how good the scheme is.
